Kyoto townhouse renovation plan
In May 2000, the Kyoto City government formulated the "Kyoto Machiya Revitalization Plan" as a support measure to promote the preservation and revitalization of Kyoto townhouses, which are symbols of Kyoto's history and culture. This plan outlined 21 items to be addressed and was compiled into Action Plan 21, and efforts have been made to preserve and revitalize Kyoto townhouses since then. In February 2019, the Kyoto City government formulated the "Kyoto Machiya Preservation and Succession Promotion Plan" to ensure that Kyoto townhouses are steadily passed on to future generations, and is comprehensively and systematically promoting various initiatives related to the preservation and succession of Kyoto townhouses.
