Kyomachiya Learning Materials "Kyomachiya ABCs"
To share the lifestyle and culture cultivated in Kyoto townhouses and their value with many people, and especially to convey the charm of Kyoto townhouses to children who will shape the future, we have created "The ABCs of Kyoto Townhouses: A Basic Guide to Buildings and Lifestyles" as educational material for children and students to learn about Kyoto townhouses, and as basic material for citizens and general business owners to get acquainted with Kyoto townhouses. Please make use of it.

Kyoto Machiya Renovation Seminar
This seminar, hosted by the Kyoto City Landscape and Urban Development Center, is for owners and residents of traditional Kyoto townhouses (Kyomachiya), as well as those specifically considering living in or utilizing a Kyomachiya. Throughout the year, participants will learn in an easy-to-understand manner about various specialized knowledge related to the preservation and revitalization of Kyomachiya, including their history and culture, renovation methods, inheritance, fundraising, and utilization methods—all immediately useful information.

This leaflet introduces Kyoto City's efforts to preserve and pass on traditional Kyoto townhouses (Kyomachiya) based on the Kyoto Machiya Ordinance and the Kyoto Machiya Plan. If you are starting to think about Kyoto townhouses, please take a look and make use of this information.

Booklet "Kyoto Machiya Short Stories"
To encourage people who have never had the opportunity to experience Kyoto townhouses to take an interest in them from a different perspective, we published a booklet in April 2022 called "Kyoto Townhouse Short Stories," which compiles stories written by various authors on the theme of Kyoto townhouses. This booklet is distributed by the Kyoto City Kyoto Townhouse Preservation and Inheritance Division.
Additionally, the Kyoto Lighthouse Information Production Center publishes Braille and audio versions (for a fee). For details, please see the following website.
