In Kyoto City, in order to pass on as many traditional Kyoto townhouses as possible to future generations, the Kyoto Townhouse Ordinance was enacted in November 2017.The following obligations apply to owners of Kyoto townhouses and demolition contractors: (2)When dealing with properties in Kyoto City, please comply with the following.Along with,Providing proactive information to owners and others who intend to demolish their Kyoto townhouses, including the pre-demolition notification system and support programs.Please do so.

Obligations for owners and demolition contractors

1. Designated Kyoto townhouses*1

owner*2 One year before the start of demolitionBy then,Notification to Kyoto CityIt is required.
Demolition contractors*3 When undertaking demolition work,The notification must be submitted at least one year prior to the date on which the above demolition work begins.Confirmation with the ownerIt is required.
When concluding a contract for demolition work,Notification to Kyoto CityIt is required.

2. Kyoto townhouses other than those mentioned in item 1 above

owner*2 Before demolitionto,Notification to Kyoto CityWe would appreciate it if you could do so.

*1 Based on the Kyoto Machiya Ordinance, individual buildings (individual designations) and areas (district designations) are designated.

*2 If the demolition contractor is handling the procedure on your behalfpower of attorneyIt is required.

*3 This refers to a contractor (prime contractor) that directly undertakes demolition work from the owner (the same applies hereinafter).

3. Providing information to the owner

Demolition contractors All Kyoto townhousesRegarding this matter, we are requesting that owners who intend to demolish their Kyoto townhouses provide information on the preservation and inheritance of such properties.

4. In violation of item 1 aboveIndividually designated KyomachiyaIf it is dismantled

owner If you demolish a designated Kyoto townhouse without notifying Kyoto City, or by filing a false notification, or more than one year after notification, you will be subject to a fine of up to 50,000 yen.
Demolition contractors If you demolish an individually designated Kyoto townhouse without confirming or notifying the above item 1, the Kyoto City government will...RecommendationI will.
If a person who has received a recommendation fails to comply with it without justifiable reason,The fact and the content of the recommendation will be made public.I will.

*When Kyoto City makes a public announcement, it will notify the person concerned of the reason and give them an opportunity to explain their position and submit favorable evidence.
