Interview video
We will begin disseminating information through short videos on TikTok, a platform widely used both domestically and internationally, especially among younger generations. Our aim is to raise awareness of the value and current state of Kyoto townhouses among many people both in Japan and abroad, and to expand the network of people involved in the preservation and inheritance of Kyoto townhouses.
From February 13th to 16th, 2024, we will be releasing a total of four videos (one per day) featuring firsthand accounts from people who are using traditional Kyoto townhouses to carry out unique initiatives. Please be sure to watch them (after that, we plan to release videos irregularly).
Interview article
In recent years, the value of Kyoto townhouses has been re-evaluated, and they are being used in a variety of ways, not only as residences, but also as shops, cultural and artistic facilities, university campuses, and offices. Furthermore, renovations are being carried out while preserving the unique characteristics of Kyoto townhouses, and they are being adapted to modern living and use needs. We spoke with people who actually live in or use Kyoto townhouses to hear about their reasons for choosing them, their living experience and how they feel about using them, and their appeal.
